U10's League Cup First Round

Rowhedge 0 – Sudbury 6

Sudbury travelled to Rowhedge with no knowledge of the home team, as they had never met before. Rowhedge kicked off and started to work the ball up the pitch, but strong defending from Toby Mattock saw off the home teams attack. The Sudbury team started to settle in well and push forward with some great passing and positional play. Eloise King worked well through the defence and had her shot saved by the Rowhedge goalie. After a succession of Sudbury corners taken by Oscar Edwards King once again gained the ball and passed it to Edwards whose shot struck the back of the net. Two subs were made with Alfie Gittings and Jack Dyble coming off halfway through the first half to be replaced by James Lavelle and Cory Willings. Rowhedge had a go on goal but keeper James McGregor kept the ball out of the net. Willings and Lavelle soon made their mark and after another pass from King Lavelle got Sudbury's second goal just before half time.

Sudbury kicked off the second half and again were the dominant force on the pitch. Ben Turner making his comeback for Sudbury after a season away took on three players with ease which then gave king another shot on goal which was stopped. King and Edwards were then subbed with Gittings and Dyble back on. Sudbury stayed in the Rowhedge half and Turner saw a shot go over the bar, Willings had a shot saved, and the Turner got the ball in the net from a corner. Being three up spurned the away team on and with a combination of Mattock Willings and McGregor working well at the back Sudbury picked up number four after Dybles shot was stopped and Gittings netted the rebounding ball. Mattock and Turner was then swapped for King and Edwards, and Sudbury continued the attack. Lavelle powered a free kick through the wall which was pushed off the line and Gittings picked up the ball and number five hit the net. After another flurry of play in the Rowhedge half Willings struck a great ball into the net for Sudbury's sixth goal of the game. The final whistle blew with Sudbury keeping their clean sheet of the season so far intact. Both coach and manager could not pick any one outstanding player from this great game so the whole team were voted as players of the match

Wivenhoe FC - 0 AFC Sudbury U9 Blues - 3

1st Round of League Cup

After a good start to the game Wivenhoe came closest first with a great effort on goal only to be saved well by Sudbury keeper, Max Selfridge. Then Sudbury came close with a swerving run from Liam Gardiner who after beating 3 players shot just wide of the Wivenhoe goal. Then came some good pressure from Sudbury with Junya Barrett-Seward and Bert Kavanagh battling well and setting up Trent New who played a great one two with Charlie Matthews only to see his shot go just wide of the Wivenhoe goal. Then Sudbury battled well with Nicholas Webber hitting it from 25 yards out and Sudbury found themselves 1-0 up. Wivenhoe came back with a bit of pressure which ended on a good shot on target but was well saved by Max Selfridge yet again.

The second half started much the same until Sudbury was awarded a free kick on the edge of the box for a foul on Trent New. Nicholas Webber placed the ball and smashed it over the wall for Sudbury to go 2-0 up. Sudbury then piled on the pressure on Wivenhoe with some good passing, Charlie Matthews was calm on the ball dribbling from his own half after some good touches from Ben Munson. The ball ended up in Wivenhoe's penalty box only for Vinnie Young to steal the ball off the Wivenhoe goalkeeper and finished well to put the blues 3-0 up and through to the next round of the cup.

Suffolk Minor U15 Cup

Felixstowe & Walton 1 AFC Sudbury U15 Tigers 8

AFC went ahead after ten minutes with a Tom Wingfield strike. Shortly after AFC made it two when full back Charlie Austin squared the ball to Sam Bayliss who put AFC two up. AFC pressed the Felixstowe back four and forced their keeper into numerous saves. AFC defend well throughout the first half and restricted Felixstowe to two long range efforts. Half Time 2 nil

At half time we spoke about making the game narrow when out off possession and switching play quickly when we had the ball. We also knew that the first 20 minutes would be important and straight from the re start AFC had a good shout for a penalty turned down however shortly after we got the third when forward Charlie Poole curled his effort in. Minutes later Harry Fryer converted a Richie Abbot cross to put AFC four up. Wingfield got his second for AFC fifth following good work from Harry Liskus and Harry Craig. Abbot then put AFC 6 up with a well placed finish and he then got his second with a curling effort to put AFC 7 up. Felixstowe pulled a goal back when their speedy forward was allowed to run with the ball and finish. It took AFC all of 30 seconds to reply when Wingfield skipped two tackles to put in for his hat trick. Full time AFC 8 Felixstow 1

A good away performance, Built on by a good defensive display and our forward play looks impressive when we switch the play at a high tempo. Thanks to the Felixstowe parents who mentioned how well we move the ball, Also best wishes to Felixstowe and Walton in their respective league.

This win means we will be at home in the next round to Waveney youth on the 13th November. Next weekend we travel to play Hadleigh United in the league
