AFC Sudbury U18 Tigers   5   Scole Lads U18s   2

A slow start from Sudbury for the second week in a row made the first half a scrappy affair . Scole to their credit attacked well and made it difficult for the home side to get a proper grip of the game. Sudbury did use their width well and found good space to exploit, which resulted in a number of dangerous crosses. Sudbury scored first, a number of blocks in the box saw the ball come out to Luke Nicoll, he controlled and fired in a left foot volley. Scole responded soon after, a speculative shot finding the back of the net. There was good industry up front for Sudbury and their next goal saw Jake Jackson feed Will Wingfield , who turned and shot well beyond the keeper. Scole bounced back well with an excellent headed goal, but before half time Jack Hubbard crossed for Wingfield who finished well to restore the lead.

A strong team talk saw Sudbury dominate the second half from the off, Nicoll saw a lot of the ball and was raiding down the right and putting in dangerous crosses. Wingfield got his hatrick as he met Nicoll's cross to the near post, with a neat finish. In defence Dan New was vocal throughout and dominant in the air, in a much changed defence, compounded by the injury loss of Reece Bayly in the first half. Sudbury now well on top were peppering the Scole goal and struck the woodwork a number of times, before Nicoll having won a tackle and beat a player hit a swerving 20 yard strike in to the top right corner of the net. More chances came and went with several players unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, Scole for their part never gave up and were a credit to their manager.

Bury Town U15 2 AFC Sudbury U15 Tigers 3

AFC made the short journey to Hardwick heath to take on Bury Town Youth and with a full squad to chose from both teams where set for the battle. With both sides setting out with a 4-5-1 formation it was clear that the game would be won in the midfield area and space would be hard to find. AFC took the lead when midfielder Harry Liskus brought himself some time to hit a 30 yard pass with the outside of his foot to Richie Abbot who pulled the ball out of the air and fire past the keeper. Both sides where guilty of giving away freekicks around the box and AFC keeper Jamie Williams claimed a few to easy the pressure. Bury nearly leveled from a corner that saw full back Josh Welsford hook of the line. AFC then forced the bury keeper into two saves and with the center half pairing of Jack Pidgeon and Ash Binfield winning everything in the air and on the ground it looked like AFC would finish the half in front, However the Bury midfielder bent the ball into the top corner from 18 yards to set up a good second half. half time 1-1

The second half started at a high tempo with both sides moving the ball well but not creating much. Bury then took the lead through a 25 yard wonder strike and it was up to AFC to respond to keep the unbeaten record going. Tom Wingfield bent a free kick just over before full back Charlie Austin forced the keeper into a save. AFC then re introduced Abbot to the game to partner Bayliss up front and with five minutes remaining leveled the scores when Austin volleyed in at the back post following a Harry Fryer long throw. With Bury hanging on for a point AFC kept loading the box through a series of long throws and deep free kicks and a ball delivered from deep saw Richie Abbot put in for his second to give AFC the lead. As soon as kick off was taken the referee blow for full time to bring to an end a hard fought derby between two good sides.full time Bury Town 2 AFC sudbury 3

Not at our best today but never knowing when your beaten is a great skill to have and eventually our pressure from set plays showed. I'm sure all contacted with the two sides will look forward to the return fixture in the new year. Next week see's an even more local derby as Sudbury tigers take on the panthers in the quarter finals of the league cup.
