AFC Sudbury Blues U9's 0 v Halstead Town 2

After a great start to the game with both teams passing and working hard for each other Halstead broke only for Charlie Matthews to defend well. Sudbury then put the pressure on Halstead which ended in a good 10 minute display of football from both teams. Halstead then had a good shot saved by Max Selfridge. Sudbury then defended well but just couldn't find their front men until a good ball from Trent New finally found Vinnie Young who blasted a shot at goal but Halstead keeper got a strong hand on it which ended in a corner. Then after a goal mouth scramble Halstead broke well with good passing only for them to smash one against the Sudbury beans on toast.

Second half started evenly at first but Halstead soon piled the pressure on the blues but goalkeeper Max Selfridge kept them in the game with some great one on one saves. Their persistence paid off and Halstead went 1-0 up after some sloppy defending. Trent New and Vinnie Young combined well only to shoot wide of the Halstead goal. Halstead finished off Sudbury with a great second goal after some good passing and moving which was the only difference between the two teams.

 KESGRAVE PUMAS U16 6  v  AFC SUDBURY U16 0 (CUP)

On a very hot day (for both teams), Sudbury started very slow from the off and just couldn’t get in the game after letting in too many goals first half.

After the break Sudbury seem to wake up, a much better performance, we played some good passing, attacking football with Jordan Rush coming close on two occasions, Dan livens shooting wide and a back post header from Brandon Wade just creeping over the crossbar.
On 60 minutes, a mistimed tackle in our box led to a penalty which was saved well by Febin Varghese, who had to pull off 4 more great saves to keep them at bay before on 73 minutes, Kesgrave snuck in a near post header from a well rehearsed short corner technique.
Full time 6-0.

A much heavier defeat for Sudbury today where this cup game was lost in the first 35 minutes, letting in the Kesgrave forwards time & time again who seem to waltz through the Sudbury defence to score 5 goals.
Sudbury were slow on the uptake, to a strong Kesgrave side who were ready to play from the 1st whistle, relentless in their attacking ,creating countless chances, most of which were saved by an ‘on form’ Sudbury keeper. Half time 5-0.
Second half much better, but again we just couldn’t make our chances count. Even though we lost 6-0, OUTSTANDING goal keeping IN BOTH HALVES earned Febin Varghese a well deserved Player of the Match, who was on the end of some very kind words from both Kesgrave Representatives and the Match official at the end of the game.
Next week we travel away again to Moreton Hall Youth, who have played 2 lost 2 in the league, where we will be looking to remove disappointment, regain any confidence lost, score goals and get back to our winning ways.

AFC Sudbury U15 (Tigers) 3 Needham Mkt U15s 0

AFC hosted Needham Market for what was our first home league game of the season. Needham had won their first two league games and came into this fixture in confident mood. The first ten minutes of the game saw Needham have more of the ball but they where reduced to long shots from distance. AFC then got more into the game and switched play well, after one of these diagonal balls AFC forced a corner that saw full back Charlie Austin deliver for Tom Wingfield to run his set run to put AFC one up. AFC then saw the Needham keeper save two Richie Abbot shots and right back Josh Welsford put just wide from 18 yards. Needham then tried to use the sun and put long balls up in the air that where dealt with well by the center half pairing off Ash Binfield and Jack Pidgeon. Needham only other effort of the half was a free kick from 20 yards that keeper Jamie Williams saved with easy. Before the half was out Harry Craig burst into the box and his volley went just over. Half time AFC 1 up

At half time I asked if we could switch the play more and isolate their full backs and the general fill was we could get up through the gears and play better. We started the second half well with Charlie Poole working hard as a lone forward and he nearly got his reward but saw his effort come back off the post before Sam Bayliss effort went just wide. Needham nearly got back into the game from a corner that saw their center forward have a free running jump but his header hit the bar. AFC then lost the influential Harry Fryer out off the center of midfield but Harry Liskus worked hard and his pass into winger Bayliss saw Bayliss cut the ball back for wingfield to put in for his and AFC second. AFC then lost center half Binfield after he came out of the back four to win the ball with a great sliding tackle, he then made another before the Needham player stamped on him and this meant we had to reshuffle again as Binfield was in no fit way to continue. AFC replied in the best way possible again another corner from Austin was headed in at the back post by Bayliss. AFC retained the ball for the final 5 minutes to see the game out and keep a clean sheet. full time AFC 3 Needham Market 0
