Sudbury U9 Blues 0 Lexden Saints U9 3

After a lively start in glorious sunshine Sudbury had a good shot from Nicholas Webber well saved by Lexden's keeper inside 2 minutes. Then Lexden broke well after some good passing but was soon defended by Charlie Matthews. Lexden then went 1-0 up after a great shot slipped just inside the post. Sudbury then came close after 2 great passes put Vinnie Young clean through only for Lexden's keeper to make yet another good save just before half time.

Sudbury soon found themselves 2-0 down with Lexden enjoying a good 5 minute spell. Sudbury then came close with a good move down the wing only for Nicholas Webber to shoot wide of the goal. Then Lexden finished off with a third goal after some sloppy defending from Sudbury. Trent New nearly got one back for the blues after a great solo run that ended with the Lexden keeper making yet another good save.

Clacton Utd U15 2 AFC Sudbury U15 (Tigers) 9 (Friendly)

AFC where up early to play Colchester and district A league side clacton United who had won their first league game 11-3. AFC where ahead after a minute when Sam Bayliss headed in a harry Fryer long throw. Shortly after AFC made it two when Richie Abbot completed some nice attacking play which started from Keeper Jamie Williams. two minutes later AFC had number three when Bayliss was bought down in the box and Tom Wingfield scored the resulting penalty. After 12 minutes Abbot got his second and AFC fourth when he finished well again. AFC then forced their keeper into twobefore seeing his effort saved. After 25 minutes Charlie Poole got his first following good work from Abbot. Half time good saves when Fryer saw his driven effort from distance saved and left back Charlie austin beat 3 men

Second half kicked off with Poole getting his second before Clacton scored with a good finish. AFC responded when a harry Craig quick throw was taken down by wingfield who drove powerful from distance to finish. Poole then completed his hat trick with a good finish from inside the box. AFC then let another in After Keeper williams caught a cross he was hit late and the forward placed in for Clacton second when many refs would have awarded a free kick. After this AFC where then fouled repeatedly and only got a free kick when we had a clear advantage. However AFC kept their cool and replayed with the best possible answer and that was with Bayliss scoring his second.

Ipswich Eagles 2 AFC Sudbury U16 ISYFL 8

Afc travelled away to Ipswich Eagles, and the early meet & 10:30am kick off didn’t seem to bother the lads at all, who were all ready and raring to go.
Afc settled straight into an attractive passing game attacking from both wide and midfield, where new signing Jordan Rush came close on 5 minutes with his left footed shot just skimming off the upright.
It was 0-1 to Afc 5 minutes later with a great long throw from Stephen Pettit, Dan Livens scoring his first at the near post.
Afc’s 2nd came on 15 minutes, when a well floated free kick from Stephen was met equally well by Dan who headed home.
The next 15 minutes was all about Jordan Rush who tried so hard to get on the score sheet, linking up well with Dan upfront, Bailey, and both wingers Brandon & Gino, but each effort going painfully wide or stopped by the Eagles keeper.
Dan got his hat-trick on 30 minutes, with a through ball from Bailey in midfield, a great individual effort to take on and beat the Ipswich goalie.
Straight after Afc’s 3rd was a barrage of pressure from Ipswich forcing corners which they looked most dangerous from, Febin Varghese in goal pulled off a fantastic double save to keep the ball out.
On 35minutes Ipswich pulled a goal back with a ball over the top of defense met by a forward who chipped our goalie. Almost from the kick off Bailey put another though ball in to the speedy Dan who scored his & Afc’s forth. Half time 1-4

The second half saw Ipswich start the stronger, & it was a ball over the top again which caught out our defense when Mitchell Weavers was judged to pull on a forward and picked up a yellow card for what was only his 1st offence.
Soon after, Ipswich made it 2-4 with a good strike from outside the box giving Febs in goal no chance.
Afc’s response was immediate, taking control of the game, accomplished passing down both wings seeing attack after attack totally frustrating the opposition.
Dan livens popped up to score his & Afc’s 5th from outside the box.
It was ‘route 1’ for our 6th of the match when a long goal kick from Febin was picked up in midfield by Bailey who just decided to ‘go it alone’ and get on the score sheet himself with a wonderful individual effort and well taken goal. Good work from Gino on the left assisted ‘Man of the Match’ Dan to his ‘double’ hat-trick, who was still hungry for more, scoring yet again, walking the ball in the net after rounding the goalie, before the ref blew for time.
Full time, Ipswich Eagles 2 Afc Sudbury 8

This was only the 2nd time the team had played together and they have seemed to gel really well, with everyone on the pitch positive & working hard for each other, special mention has to go to Dan & his 7 goals, & the newly formed back four of Scott, George, Tom & Mitch, who commanded very well in the middle at the back, keeping it together, making the right decisions, well done to all the lads who each played an integral part of our 2nd victory.

Halstead Town Reds 2 v AFC Sudbury U14 1

A much changed Halstead team from last season, AFC were on the back foot from the outset. It took AFC 10 mins to get into the game with their superb passing. League debutant, Jordan Brown, fitted in well as he fed Bradley Youngs on the right with some nice balls.
On 11 mins AFC were unlucky not to take the lead when a sweeping corner from Youngs found the head of Tom Irwin; just over the bar. Youngs was in good form first half as he flooded the 18 yard box with good crosses.
Kieran Marshall on the left was also doing his usual trickery, and his sweeping cross found Youngs at the back who pulled the ball back for Lewis Kindell to fire over the bar.
18 mins Halstead took the lead when their rather tall No12 was put through on the left, to drive home beautifully. 1-0.
AFC continued to push forward. Irwin picked up a deep Halstead corner from the edge of the box and went on a magnificent run up the field to release Kindell, all to no avail. AFC’s passing was great to see as Youngs passed back to Brown, to Liam O’Mara who put through Kindell to fire a shot, inches wide of the post. And then on 32 mins the ball was laid back to Sam Daw from the edge of the Halstead 18 yard box, survived one tackle and let fly with a 25-30 yard shot, over the keepers head and into the back of net. A well deserved equaliser.
AFC finished the half on a high as they tried to find the leading goal.

Second half AFC started strongly. Within a minute of the re-start O’Mara put through Alex Curran, his shot smothered by the Halstead keeper. Again Halstead were strong on the attack.
Many occasion Kindell and Curran were put through on goal, but for a great save or recovering defender AFC could not find the back of the net. On 10 mins AFC did not pick up the No11 who ran down the middle of the pitch, unmarked as he picked up the ball and slotted home to take the lead.
A beautifully struck free kick from Daw on the edge of the Halstead box was blocked as we struggled to find the back of the net.
We should have at least got a draw from this match, but Halstead saw out the match to take all three points.

Player of the Match: Jordan Brown

Wivenhoe 0 – AFC Sudbury U10 Blues 2

The game started with Wivenhoe kicking off and pushing forward straight away which called on defenders Oscar Edwards and Alfie Gittings to do some early work. They got the ball back up into the Wivenhoe half and a corner was forced for Sudbury. Edwards managed to get on the end of the ball and his shot fell wide. The goal kick by Wivenhoe was picked up by Eloise King but some work by the home side saw the ball pushed out of play. Wivenhoe then put in some strong play and it was only a great save from Sudbury keeper James McGregor that saw the score kept even, and a second attack by Wivenhoe saw the ball clip the post and go out of play. Sudbury made some good moves up the field and a shot by James Lavelle found itself the wrong side of the post. A couple of minutes later Sudbury missed another chance when the throw in from Gittings was picked up by Cory Willings and his shot could not find the target. Sudbury continued to control the play with some great work between Jack Dyble and King, but the defence of Gittings and Edwards was called upon again by a surprise Wivenhoe attack which again saw McGregor make the save. As the play hotted up Wivenhoe had a lucky save right on the line from a Lavelle shot. The Sudbury midfield put in some more good work which saw Willings and Dyble work together to get the ball up and Dyble get the first goal of the game from a Willings cross which he blasted into the back of the net. This seemed to spur Sudbury on and they continued to pressure Wivenhoe, with Willings having another shot denied and this pace was kept up until the half time whistle.

Sudbury kicked off the second half and saw Wivenhoe pick the ball up and attack with earnest. Edwards stopped them the first time and the next shot rattled the cross bar. A good run down the line by Dyble saw the ball crossed into the Wivenhoe goalmouth with no one able to pick it up. Again the Sudbury defence was called upon and Gittings and Edwards ensured Wivenhoe did not the chance to score. Willings, King and Lavelle then forced it back up the pitch and continued to worry the home sides defence. After a Wivenhoe goal kick the ball was picked up by Lavelle, passed onto Willings who saw King was well placed to receive the pass, and King slotted the ball home in great style. With 2 goals in the bag Sudbury carried on the pace of play and again saw Dyble and Lavelle having runs through the centre and down the wing but were stopped short by the Wivenhoe defence. McGregor Edwards and Gitting were called upon a couple of more times at the back and made sure that Wivenhoe did not get the chance to score. As the final whistle went a jubilant Sudbury got the win they deserved after a great team performance.

Man Of The Match: Alfie Gittings

Wivenhoe 2 – AFC Sudbury U10 Reds 1

Wivenhoe kicked off and made an attack straight away. Sudbury's goal kick was picked up by Wivenhoe and a powerful strike from the half way line saw the ball fly into the back of the net, despite the efforts of George Codling who could not get his hands to it. This early goal did not seem to stop the Wivenhoe attack and some strong defending from Peter Shipley and Thomas Drayton stopped the home side in their tracks. Jacob Gilbert had a great run with the ball down the line and picked out Adam Jeggo who struggled to finish after good defending from Wivenhoe. Again Gilbert got the ball and took it into the Wivenhoe half and passed on to Josh Wood who struggled against the defence. Wivenhoe moved forward again and Jeggo was in the thick of it making sure the ball was kept out the Sudbury goalmouth. With Drayton and Shipley being pressured Cox helped out and took the ball down the line with a great long run but was forced out by Wivenhoe. Sudbury were awarded a corner and Shipleys shot failed to hit target. Codling was called upon by a Wivenhoe attack and made a great save to stop them getting another goal, and was put under pressure again moments later but again stopped the ball. The first half drew to a close with Sudbury having a last push with Gilbert, Jeggo and Cox all trying to get the ball into the Wivenhoe half .

It was Sudbury's turn to kick off as the second half got under way and the break looked as though it had done them some good, as they were fired up to try and level the score. A good ball from Gilbert to Jeggo, saw Gilbert get the chance to run on and Jeggo passed it back to Gilbert who took the shot and saw the ball hit the back of the net. Sudbury were inspired and we saw some good runs from Cox and Gilbert, Jeggo working well with them, got the ball up to Wood who was deep in the Wivenhoe half, but was denied by strong defending. Wivenhoe then took the ball up the middle of the pitch and Codling was at a loss to stop the strike by the home team which put them back in the lead. Gilbert had some great long balls stopped by Wivenhoe and Cox again had some runs down the wing which Sudbury could not convert to change the scoreline. Drayton and Shipley provided the strength at the back as Wivenhoe started to push for another and Codling stopped another ball from going in. Sudbury had a chance after Wood was taken down in the Wivenhoe half, but Jeggos free kick could not make it even. As the clock ticked down Gilbert picked up the ball from deep in the Sudbury half and ran down the centre of the pitch took his shot and powered it over the bar. This was Sudburys last real chance and saw the game draw to a close.

Man Of The Match: Ben Cox

Bury Ranger 7 AFC Sudbury U18 (Tigers) 0

Disappointing result for AFC after an excellent start a week earlier. The game was effectively lost in the opening 10 - 15 minutes, despite AFC having decent periods of play throughout the match.
