Sudbury U10 Blues2 Stanway Rovers 2

Stanway kicked off the game and straight away pushed deep into the Sudbury half. Some good defending from Toby Mattock and Eloise King kept the visitors at bay, but Sudbury seemed the slower team to pick the game against a determined Stanway. King had a shot on goal denied and Stanway then replied with a cracking shot from the halfway line that just crept wide. Jack Dyble and Alfie Gittings played the ball well from a long James McGregor goal kick but were kept back by strong Stanway defending. Dyble and Gittings were then taken off with Ben Turner and Cory Willings taking their places. Willings soon made his presence felt and passed a great ball to King whose shot hit the net and put the home side in the lead. Turner made some runs down the wing and Oscar Edwards helped keep the defence tight, making use of James Lavelle in the middle trying to push up into the Stanway half. Stanway kept the pressure up and despite a valiant effort from goalie McGregor Stanway equalised. The visiting team carried on again with pressure and managed to net another goal just before half time.

Sudbury kicked off the second half with Dyble back on and King off and the Sudbury side seemed to have stepped up a gear with a strong attack on the Stanway goal. Turner was fast down the wing and Lavelle was playing well into the Stanway half, but Stanway were very quick to pick the ball up between passes. Willings had been pulled back to defence and proved himself against the Rover attacks. Mattock was then subbed and Gittings came back on and Sudbury carried trying to get the equaliser. It finally came after some great play from the home team with Lavelle picking up a perfect Dyble pass and slamming it into the goal. Both teams were now really fighting to get the winner but the final whistle blew with the score line staying equal.

Player of the Match: Cory Willings

Sudbury U10 Reds 0 Stanway Rovers 2

Sudbury kicked off and a strong Stanway side picked up the ball and made a break into the Sudbury half. Only good work from Jacob Gilbert at the back saw off an early goal. The home side seemed to be a bit sluggish against a fast paced Stanway team but Adam Jeggo picked up the ball and made some moves into the away teams half. Stanway made an attack on the Sudbury goal, and goalie George Codling got his hands on the ball but could not stop the shot going in and putting the visitors in the lead. Alf Powell and Pete Shipley put in some strong tackles to keep the Rovers at bay and Ben Cox made a good run down the wing but the Stanway players again seemed ready to pick up the ball from the passes. Alex Woodward had long high shot stopped by the Rovers goalie and then some subs were made to the home team seeing Jeggo, Woodward and Powell being replaced by Harry Malone, Thomas Drayton and Josh Wood. Gilbert blasted a ball from well back in the Sudbury area but this was picked up by the Rovers goalie, and Sudbury then conceded the second goal of the half just before the whistle blew for half time.

It was Rovers turn to start the second half and Sudbury seemed to have a new lease of life. Powell and Drayton got stuck in with the tackles and started to make more chances for the home team with Malone and Jeggo pushing forward trying to break into the Rovers defence. Another two subs were made and Gilbert had a long run with the ball from deep in the Sudbury stooped only by the Stanway defence and then goalie Codling made a great save to stop the visitors getting another goal. Shipley proved his worth in keeping the ball clear and Sudbury was then awarded a free kick just outside the Stanway area. Jeggo lined the ball up and blasted at the goal and it was only the skill of the Stanway goalie that stopped Sudbury getting a much deserved goal, just before the ref blew the final whistle of a very tight second half.

Player of the Match: Alf Powell

Hadleigh U15s 3 AFC Sudbury U15s 5

AFC made the short journey to Hadleigh looking to build on last weeks impressive cup win. However AFC where down to the bare 11 players with 3 defenders missing that meant a reshuffle to the side. The first 15 minutes was even with AFC playing neat football and getting a few shots away at goal that the keeper saved. AFC went one down following a free kick that saw a hadleigh player have a free header to put them one up. AFC remained calm in possession and got their reward following a set play that Richie Abbot fired into the roof off the net. AFC then went ahead when Tom Wingfield fired in from 25 yards. AFC saw the half out by keeping the ball and control the tempo of the game. Half Time AFC 2- Hadleigh 1

Once again we knew the first 20 minutes of the second half would be important and the half started at a quick pace, But AFC midfield players where looking after the ball well and after a string of pass Wingfield scored with a left footed volley from just inside the box. Sam Bayliss then showed his pace and skill as he beat two defenders in a tight space to put in for AFC fourth and game over you would think. However Hadleigh weren't to give in a pulled one back when AFC gave away a penalty following two missed tackles from just within our half. AFC tried to respond with forward Charlie Poole hitting the post and Abbot and Bayliss both working the keeper with efforts before Poole put a header just wide. AFC got a deserved fifth when Harry Liskus headed over the keeper. Once again AFC gave away a silly foul that saw the ball pumped into our box and slotted in for Hadleigh third.
