CFC Bury Saints U18 0 AFC Sudbury U18 Tigers 2

AFC started brightly, passing the ball well and bringing in the width with good diagonal balls. Several chances came and went before Jake Jackson picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and hit a goal bound shot, which was deflected over the keeper and in. The pressure was all Sudbury and wide men Jack Hubbard and Luke Nicoll saw plenty of action, both supplied well by full backs Scott Bayly and Harry Payne. The second came from Nicoll as he stole the ball in midfield, rode a couple of challanges and slotted nicely under the keeper. Sudbury defended well and when called upon keeper Tracey was alert and untroubled.

The second half saw the home side change their tactics and they got on the front foot from the off, chances were made, but again the AFC defence and keeper were equal to it. Up front for AFC, Brandon New was a constant nuisance to the home sides back four, as he chased and harried in a very hard working display. No further goals were scored, but AFC always looked in control and unlikely to conceed.

AFC Sudbury U15 Tigers 7 AFC Sudbury U15 Panthers 1

This league cup quarter final pitted both AFC Sudbury teams against each other for a place in the semi final. It was the panthers who made a brighter start when forward Charlie Whittle was put through but his effort drew a good stop out of tigers keeper Jamie Williams. The tigers took the lead following a Charlie Austin corner that Harry Liskus volleyed in, shortly after Tom Wingfield bent a free kick into the top corner to put the tigers two up. A short corner saw Wingfield grab his second before Richie Abbot skipped through for his first. Following a long throw left back Austin headed in at the back post and abbot got his second after some neat build up play that both center backs Jack Pidgeon and Ash Binfield started before a clever switch in play allowed Abbot to finish. On the stroke of half time Sam Bayliss fired in. half time Tigers 7 up.

Second half was more even with the panthers pressing the ball well an showing everyone what they can do and they got their reward when forward Emery Moore caught the tigers out as we tried to play out from the back and he showed his cool when under pressure to place into an unguarded goal from 25 yards. Sam Bayliss hit the post for the tigers but the game fizzled out with both teams defending well. Full time Tiger 7 Panthers 1

Next weekend the tigers host Thurston in the league and will be hoping to finish the year off with a good performance whilst the Panthers have a free weekend.

Finally thanks to all the parent from both sides who stayed behind to help with getting the equipment away!
